Sam Paton, an agricultural economist and valuer, was sent to Moppity in 2003 by Bank SA to value the vineyard and also assist them in setting up a marketing campaign. Upon arrival Sam found that the place was an absolute mess and there was a large 100-megalitre dam which was bone dry. He convinced the bank to tidy up the land and then Sam set about the difficult task of the dam, with the help of local irrigation suppliers and Brother Clements, a water diviner.
